Yesterday marked the first day of Black History Month and it was indeed unsettling to find out that thee Donald Cortez "Don" Cornelius, show host and producer of the nationally syndicated dance/music Soul Train, was found dead in his home yesterday morning.
Rather than focus on his alleged suicide death we would like to pay homage to his 35 year run on Soul Train in which he was able to help shape careers, start trends and be a legend in his own right. Before there was Bet and MTV, there was Soul Train was the show that honored the top performances in R&B, hip-hop, gospel and jazz and showcased dances and clothing styles that were popular in the young african american community.
Don Cornelius was such a smooth brother and had a deep soothing voice that captivated audienceS. He will forever be remembered for "Love Peace & Soul" and the infamous "Soul Train Line", in which people would line up on seperate sides faces each other and one or more people would come down the middle doing a catchy dance.
